55 The Strand, Tauranga, also 12 Hamilton Street and later Cornerstone Pub, was a 1935 inter-war commercial building by Holman, Moses & Watkins on the Hamilton Street corner. Joshua Wright’s drapery occupied the site from 1879; Hartley’s Drapery followed by 1918; Mrs M.E. Lamport replaced the timber shop. It used reinforced concrete and plastered brick, Moderne horizontality, fluted bands, projecting hoods and a balcony.
