Date9 August 2015Reference NumberPhoto 16-458DescriptionPhotograph of the Cornerstone Pub at 55 The Strand near Hamilton Street in Tauranga 2015. In 2015 retiree Rodney Giddens undertook to provide a photographic record of shop fronts from the roadside of Tauranga’s CBD.

In 1879 this site was Joshua Wright's drapery business including a large frontage of 60 feet and a premise of 4000 square feet. In 1918 Charles Hartley had a drapery there that carried on for many years after his death by his widow Mrs Lamport. She had the Wright building demolished in 1935 and engaged architects Holman, Moses, and Watkins of Auckland to design a new building.
