Born in Glaisdale, Yorkshire, and baptised on 3 October 1849, she was fostered or adopted by Rev. Joseph Tice Gellibrand and Selina Hannah Evans. She married Arthur Algernon Crapp at St Sepulchre’s Church, Auckland, on 28 February 1878; they had eight children and settled at Ōmokoroa.
