Goodger, Beryl Enid, née Hammond, c.1926–2022 (Person)

SummaryBorn in South Africa about 1926–1927 and later settled in New Zealand. She and her husband Bob lived in Auckland, Taranaki and Ōmokoroa before moving with their three children into a new state house on Somerset Grove, Merivale, (13 October 1955). A fourth child was born three years later. Goodger became involved with Merivale School, including its PTA and library work, and with local Presbyterian activities. Her 1993 oral history records the development of Merivale, including state housing, the naming of the suburb, Parkvale Post Office, local shops, transport, telephone services and neighbourhood life. Beryl and Bob were also active orchid enthusiasts and foundation members of the Tauranga Orchid Society in 1981; Beryl later served the Orchid Council of New Zealand and received a service recognition certificate.
