DescriptionThe badge is described as an eightpointed star, a lion within a garter and were cast in either bronze or brass. A few badges were specially made for officers, the badges in silver and gilt. One pattern has the star and lion in silver, the other has the scroll ' Hauraki' in silver. The badge is derived from the helmet plate of the Hauraki Rifle Volunteers which formed on the 1 March 1869._x005F_x000D__x000D_
