SummaryBorn at Larkspur, Katikati, 10 February 1894, to William and Mary Ann (née Hamilton). Worked at Smith Brothers in Te Puke. Enlisted First World War (13/2297), Auckland Mounted Rifles.

Barraclough served in Egypt (1915–1916) and France (from 1916), later as a driver. Repeatedly disciplined for offences, including absence without leave and neglect of orders. Caught measles in April 1918 and influenza in early 1919. Wounded at the Second Battle of the Somme (29 October 1918). Discharged 11 September 1919 as no longer fit for service due to illness.
