Elizabeth Street is running vertically on the left, with Matapihi rail bridge on the far side of it. The centre foreground shows the borough dump on Glasgow Street and to the left, an Aeroclub hangar which was later used as the Boy Scout Hall. The Waikareao estuary mudflats were used as an airstrip in the 1930's. Kingsford-Smith landed there. The Takitimu Expressway now covers the landing area.
