The Strand is much closer to the waterfront than after the 1962 and 1972 reclamation of land there. The Tauranga yacht club is situated next to the Matapihi rail bridge. The Harbourside restaurant is now in its place. The Star Hotel stands out as the two-storey building on the corner of Devonport Road and Spring Street . Taken and donated to the Tauranga Library by Rendell, Alfred Hugh 1917-2019, author of "Rendell's Tauranga, Historic Tauranga from above", a well known local photographer as was his father Robert John Rendell 1875-1941 before him.
