Eleanor was born in Warkworth, Rodney, Auckland, New Zealand in c. 1824 to William Pulham and Francis Burrow. Captain William Pulham, was an active member of the Parochial Committee formed in 1853, and was one of the earliest members of St Matthew’s church in Auckland.
Eleanor married Walter Combes in 1851 and they lived in Auckland with their five children.
