The daguerreotype is glazed has a gold matboard and frame, and the sides and back are covered in a brown leather. On the back is a green paper label with: "J.A. JONES, PHOTOGRPAPHIC ARTIST - 36 HIGH STREET - BRIGHTON.", printed on it. At the time of cataloguing the daguerreotype was wrapped in tissue and had a note with it, written in blue ink on a scrap of writing paper, which read: "My Grandfather Captain William Nevell."
