There are 20 photographs in the frame and each is covered with an independent sheet of glass. The children are all girls, ranging in age from around 6 years to their early teens. All are dressed in costume from the turn of the 19th century, and are all posing on the same wicker chair which suggests the portraits were all taken at the same time.. Alice and Euphemia Maxwell worked to raise money for Barnados for many years. Alice from her childhood through to her old age. An annual gathering was held at The Elms to raise funds and as the years passed these became large events, overflowing from the house to two large marquees on the lawn.
