Date29 July 2015Reference NumberPhoto 15-320DescriptionIn 2015 retiree Rodney Giddens undertook to provide a photographic record of shop fronts from the roadside of Tauranga's CBD. Roadside photograph of Grey Street number 29, old Public Trust Building. Various signs can be made out, including “Rydal House”, “Priority 1”, “Stratum Consultants”, “ignition”, “adcorp”.

This three storied Rydal House was built in 1955 on west side of Grey Street for the Public Trust. The architect was Stanley W Fearn FNZIA (1887-1976) of Wellington who designed several Public Trust Buildings. The influence of modern design ideas and traditional elements in design and solidity reinforces the image of the Public Trust. There are 20 car parks on the roof accessible from the City Council car park building in Durham Street. It was renovated in 2000 when the architect was Babbage of Tauranga. The tenants in 2021 include UDC; Smith & Nell; Stratum Consultants; Priority One; Ara Rau Pathways to Work.
