Henry Silcox

The name may be spelt Silcock or Silcox.

Henry Silcox was born in Rode Somerset c 1813 to 1819, the son of William Silcock (from marriage certificate )

Henry married Elizabeth Self, daughter of John Self on the 15th December 1839 in Varteg, Near  Pontypool in Wales.His occupation was  given as a  Miner, Henry age 20, Elizabeth age 24

Henry and Elizabeth move to Bristol and in 1841   They are living in   South Green Street Clifton,Henry is a Quarryman

In 1851 and 1861  they lived at 1 Crown Court  South Green Street Clifton

By 1871 Henry and family lived at 2 Cumberland Cottage Clifton Bristol

Henry worked as an excavator at Cleeve Quarry, which was owned by Mr  Eaglestaff.  It was a limestone quarry and limestone was used to form the roads in Bristol and the surrounding area.

On Saturday the 25th March 1862 Henry was engaged with others in blowing up rocks at Cleeve quarry,  by the river side and took shelter from the falling rocks under an archway. A large stone however struck the side of the arch and spilt in two ,one of the pieces struck Henry on  his  head Henry died from injuries sustained on the 29th March 1876 at the Temporary Royal Infirmary from the injures sustained

Children of Henry and Elizabeth are Henry John James b 1843 , Mary Elizabeth b 1845, Martha Charlotte b 1847 , Alfred Self b 1849, Edward Charles b 1852 , Lucy Matilda b 1854 , Lucy Matlida b 1856 , Sarah Ann b 1858 and Isaac Charles b 1860
