Ams 200/3: Minutes of Tauranga South Women's Institute, 1964-1989
The first set of minutes in this volume, dated between 1932 and 1948, were created by the Hairini-Welcome Bay Branch of the Tauranga Women's Institute. Hairini-Welcome Bay branch was the outcome of a meeting of local women held in the Hariri Hall in October 1932, with 25 women attending the first monthly meeting. The Iceland poppy was chosen as the emblem, and a banner was worked in 1933 by Mrs Keam.
In 1948 the institute's name was changed to Hairini-Tauranga South and this is reflected in the second set of minutes. The third set of minutes results from another name change in 1964, where the institute became Tauranga South. 250 members and guests attended the institute's 21st birthday party in 1953 and by 1956 membership rose to 94. The institute has two English links, at Southall, and Rough Commons.
