Collection SummaryIn 2018, while still constructing Pae Korokī, we began exploring how to better work with Taonga Māori as a Heritage and Research team. We initially developed a Kaitiakitanga Framework to help us understand how Pākehā and Māori approaches to heritage material are different. Then in 2021 to better reflect Mātauranga Māori and what partnership in our sector might look like, the Waka Hourua Model was launched. These were briefly presented at the 2022 National Digital Forum in Wellington (see video below). In response to requests from within our sector, this was formally written up as a case study, and less formally summarised in the ARANZ magazine, Archifacts (2022).
Kaitiakitanga StatementPlease use taonga materials provided by Te Ao Mārama: Tauranga City Libraries appropriately. This includes being respectful and mindful of the imageer/s, as well as the mana and dignity of people, iwi and hapū group/s, and the environmental subjects depicted in the material.
