Tauranga: Arriving in Tauranga in 1954, Ernest taught maths, science and English at Tauranga Boys’ and Girls’ Colleges, until retirement in 1966.
Societies and media: Member and also Secretary of Tauranga Historical Society. Editor of journal of NZ Federation of Historical Societies. Writer of gardening columns for Bay of Plenty Times and Mount News, and author of many articles for the Historical Society’s journal; he also did radio broadcasts on historical topics.
