Tauranga Aero Club (Organisation)

SummaryTauranga Aero Club was established in 1932. It is a non profit social club, administered by an elected committee, with club rooms and a number of aircraft based at Tauranga Airport.Main Body

Charter: the original club charter was to 'promote aviation to the wider public', over time activities have evolved to include providing a career pathway for young pilots, making aircraft available to club members at a reasonable cost, a social club, and a commercial operation.

First President: was "Mrs Hilda Hewlett, the first female pilot to hold a pilot's licence in the British Empire" (Tauranga Aero Club).

50-year jubilee 1982: celebrations on 3 July included demonstrations of handling skills and speed and a ball at Tauranga Racecourse in the evening. Captain of the club Mr R. Adamson said "the club had 300 members, mostly from Tauranga and Mount Maunganui" (Bay of Plenty Times, 1982).
