The two letters from George Skidmore to H.B.J. discuss:
the visit to William and Edward who where on the journey with H.B.J., an account of the Mercer Regatta
the "Wellington-Wairarapa earthquake of 1855", which occured along approximately 140 kms of the Wairarapa fault, registered 8.2 on the richter scale, with tsunami waves affecting Wellington.
