SummaryJessie Watson was born and educated in Parnell, Auckland. She trained as a nurse at Auckland Hospital, graduating with honours in December 1929.
After a year as a staff nurse, she trained at Campbell Johnstone hospital in Hamilton and then did mid-wifery at St Helens, Auckland, again passing with honours.
In November 1933 Jessie moved to Tauranga and started Thornecliffe Private Hospital at 19 Edgecumbe Road, with Sister Dorothy Jackson.
During World War 2, Sister Watson went overseas with Third General Hospital. She was attached to the 8th Army casualty clearing station from April 1942-43 and travelled from Cairo to Tunis, and back to Tripoli, then went to Italy until 1944. During this time she was mentioned in dispatches.
Both nursing Sisters were actively involved in Red Cross, Crippled Childrens and many other local organisations. They were both made Honary Members of the N.Z. Registered Nurses Association.
