The occupational connection between My father John Church and Tui Harvey was the timber industry: Tui Timbers and Odlins, hence John Church becoming the GM of Odlins in Tauranga. (James Church, 8 June 2026).

SummaryNew Zealand carpenter, master builder, sawmiller, and sportsman, born 23 Feb 1908 at Ōpōtiki, youngest of at least twelve children of David Highland Harvey and Elizabeth Susan Rihi Harvey née Callaway. Married Maisie (of Taumarunui); children included Pat, Gaye, and David; returned from Australia to New Zealand in 1932. Co-founder of Smith Harvey Construction Ltd (1942), later employing over 100 men; operated “Tuhi Timbers” and milling ventures at Ōropi and Pyes Pā, including land acquired 1946. Active in rowing (club captain, life member), golf administration, big-game fishing (NZ representative 1966, 1968), and racing.
