Reference Number2008.0019DescriptionA daguerreotype set in a case with a lid, made of wood covered with a fine brown bevelled leather on the outside, with 2 metal hooks on the side to close. The inside of the case is lined with red velvet, and the daguerreotype is mounted under a gold pressed metal surround with an oval shaped opening, and both are set under glass, with a gold coloured metal frame. The daguerreotype is black and white, and is a portrait of a bearded man from the waist up, with Jacket, waistcoat and fob chain, and a bow tie. A note found with the daguerreotype written in Miss. G. Nevell's hand says: "My Grandfather William Nevell".. Although not recorded in The Elms Trust receipt book, it is likely this item was donated by Miss. G. Nevell the Grand daughter of Captain William Nevell, as a note accompanying the daguerreotype is written in her hand.Physical DescriptionDocumentary Artifact.
