Date2004Reference NumberAV 22-003/12DescriptionJohn Cotter was born in Te Awamutu to Tom and Elizabeth Cotter. He went to Kakahi School and St Joseph’s Convent
in Paeroa until the age of 14, when he began to help his father break in 50 acres at Karangahake. He then worked for J.B. Morris in the old Crown Mine workings. John married Alice O’Dwyer in Waihi, 1939. He drove trucks for Charlie Netherton and after 5 years returned to take over the farm from his father.
