Introduction text: "The short but very appropriate address that opens the Special Edition album was made by John, then a local radio announcer in Tauranga, at the very first Jazz Festival of Tauranga called 'Jazz on a Summer Night' because of the open air setting in the 20,000 Club Soundshell. Although the Soundshell no longer exists the annual festival continues and is becoming stronger each year.

John expressed hope that the festival would become a regular feature of the local Jazz scene and after 25 years it has not only become a major feature locally but features as a major New Zealand event."
