Coloured Fountain & Royal Visit - 1963

“The Coloured Fountain & Royal Visit - The Junior Chamber of Commerce made this wonderful gift possible. Donations from generous townfolk & under the leadership of John Harden with many hours of gratiously given hard work by members. Where just before was a grassy patch we have this thing of beauty. Another adjunct to the already wonderful childrens playing [sic].
We used the fountain to proceed what promised to be a wonderful day for the Royal Visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh. The Britannia comes round the Mount to take a berth at the Mount wharf. The Royal party came over to Tauranga were met by his worship Mr D Mitchell.
Scenes are at the sound shell the Domain, this was the childrens opportunity to see the Queen. After lunch we go to the Mount for the outdoor do at the Ocean Beach and then with a wave we say goodbye. The Queen said Kia Ora”
