“Documentary on construction of road. Title ‘Kiwi Films, Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, NZ.’ Road sign ‘Cameron Road’. View of cars traveling down road. Sign ‘Tauranga Borough Council.’ Men working with machinery on side of road digging and moving earth. Machine pushes tree, then pulls it over. Sign on side of truck ‘H.L. Duncan Ltd, Tauranga.’ Two men in hats measure width of road. Truck tips up metal over road. Grader follows truck pouring water on road. Bitumen is sprayed onto road. Truck backs up laying metal onto bitumen. Men brush road with brooms. Water sprays from pipe like geyser, men shovel metal over water [broken water mains]. Cars drive down new tarseal road.

Title ‘Cameron Road, Dec 1950.’ Man drives grader down road with brush roller down road, creating cloud of dust. Truck tips gravel into machine, which begins to move slowly down road. Grader pushes and pulls tree over, then drags tree along track onto back of truck. Grader works on road. Cars drive down road. Road sign ‘Twelvth Avenue.’ View of road.

“ Cameron Road. Up to quite recently Cameron Rd was a single strip of bitumen flanked by tall grass and no kerbing. Then came one small bucket front end loader & started an Herculean task. to dig away to a depth of about 2 ft the full length of Cameron Road. Later Messrs H L Duncan road contractors came on the job and still later Don Robins to complete the road to 17th Avenue. In this film one sees ‘How we were’ and we know ‘how we are’. We were quite rural. sheep & cattle used to come through 15th Ave to Judea sale yards. One more instance of a town waking up and becoming civic minded, to heading for The City of Today.”
